Hunters and Anglers Notes . . . by Steve Elliott
The Ernie Eddy Memorial Children’s Ice Fishing Derby last
weekend was a fabulous success; 176 children and their parents enjoyed a
beautiful day on the ice of Twin Lakes last weekend. Children and adults
stuffed themselves with hot dogs, sweets and wild game goodies that were
served. 34 fish were caught during the 4 hour derby. Richard Hansen was
the winner in the open division and Wilson Moore was the winner of the
splake division. Sarah Bailey bested the boys by catching the most fish.
Because of the generosity of our donors, every child received a prize. A
list of donors follows.
Graham and Sherrie wanted me to thank all of the volunteers,
donors and donors of baked goods that made this year’s derby an
unqualified success.
Many people ask us how we can afford to put this big event
on at no cost to the participants. The funds to put on this derby come
from the proceeds of the Soo Salmon Derby that we have taken over. We
feel that teaching kids to enjoy fishing and hunting in a responsible
manner is one of our biggest priorities.
The
complete standings are as follows
Open Division
1. Richard Hansen
2. Mitchell Avery
3. Nathan Coombs
Splake Division
1. Wilson Moore
Congratulations to all the winners!!
Thanks to Talbert Stinson for spending the night on the ice to make sure
everything was secure.
Thank
you to all the donors that made The Ernie Eddy Memorial Children’s Ice
Fishing Derby a success: |
